Diversion Therapy

Our primary role is to supervise vulnerable and distressed patients. All our staff are trained in Diversion Therapy to keep patients safe and distract them from wanting to do things that might be unsafe or prevent their recovery.

By using everyday items such as playing cards, quiz books, dominoes and other activities we aim to stimulate and interact with the patient. Conversation on subjects that are relevant and interesting to the patient and for whom conversation is appropriate and possible.

Digital Tablet Therapy

Using digital technology has been proven to reduce stress, lower
possible aggression and increase patient engagement.

All our staff go equipped to each shift with a computer tablet to spend time: Listening to music from all eras; Play games such as solitaire, chess, hangman, scrabble and word searches; Watch old video clips of TV programmes, holiday destinations and more; Play activities such as colouring in pictures; Discuss old photos of pastimes and activities.

Creative Therapy

Our unique Creative therapy program enables patients to spend time making crafts while recovering in hospital. All our staff are equipped with craft materials to make cards, flowers, origami animals and more which engage the patients for hours and lower stress levels.

Validation Therapy

The fundamental principle of the validation therapy is the concept of validation or the reciprocated communication of respect which communicates that the other's opinions are acknowledged, respected, heard, and (regardless whether or not the listener actually agrees with the content), they are being treated with genuine respect as a legitimate expression of their feelings, rather than marginalized or dismissed.

Reminiscence Therapy

Reminiscence Therapy involves the discussion of past activities, events and experiences with another person, usually with the aid of tangible prompts such as photographs, household and other familiar items from the past, music and archive sound recordings.

Reminiscence therapy is one of our most popular psychosocial interventions in dementia care and is highly rated by staff and participants. We believe it is effective in improving mood in people with dementia and aiding recovery

Cognitive Stimulation Therapy

Many people with dementia want to find ways to improve their memory and thinking skills and cope with memory loss.

Cognitive Stimulation Therapy aims to actively stimulate and engage people with dementia while providing an optimal learning environment and the social benefits of a group. The effects of CST appear to be of a comparable size to those reported with the currently available anti-dementia drugs

Reporting & Improving

Reporting and Improving

We use the latest patient centred software to plan, implement and track patient well being, moods and engagement levels. Whenever our Dementia Support workers provide therapies to patients, they record what worked well, what the patient doesn't like, how the therapy changed their mood and how engaged the patient was during and after the activity.
By recording this information, we can share it with NHS professionals and family to give the very best of care and learn from best practice. Our software is fully GDPR complaint and protects patient confidentiality.

Reducing Falls

Ensign Dementia Support Workers are always in close proximity to vulnerable and distressed patients, helping to reduce the risk of falls. Assisting the patients out of bed and moving around the ward, we can reduce accidents and improve safety for all.
